There are two main methods of shaping or “tooling” your seams. The first is to use a concrete cut off saw with a diamond blade to remove excess stone so that each block fits tightly with its neighbor. However, in heavily populated residential areas the noise and dust from a cut off saw may be unwelcome. 

Another method is to use a sledgehammer, mini sledge, or chisel to break off excess stone. Simply strike the face of the stone on the area to be removed toward the back of the stone.
